Our beauty spots are not dumping grounds

I'm lucky to spend a lot of my time in some very pretty locations around Melbourne and the surrounding region.  Some of our prettiest spots, which still retain a bush-like feel, are along the Yarra.

The Yarra lazily winds its way to the sea through our suburbs and inner city, and provides many of us not only a stunning backdrop, but also a place to relax and unwind.

On just two walks along the river I have filled five bin bags with rubbish . I haven't managed to do anything about the fly-tipped builders' waste!

The rubbish I pick up mostly comprises recyclable plastic bottles - mostly drinking water bottles (don't get me started!) - and aluminium cans, and on my most recent walk, KFC and McDonalds junk food packaging, and dealer bags and other drug paraphernalia. (BTW, I don't have a moral objection to people taking drugs - as long as they are safe, and don't harm others.)

But I just wish we could stop being so selfish and leaving our crap all over the place!
